The World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 indicates that John Stewart Yeend served in the military, and lived in Portage, Ohio. This military record may include the soldier's home address, occupation, dates served, the rank at induction and discharge, and state served. Some pension and draft registration records have other information about soldiers (like birth date and place) and their family members or surviving widows. World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 and other military records can trace the Yeend's family service in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish American War, World War 1, and other national conflicts. We played croquet in their big grassy side yard.] He was in the lumber business with his father, James and brother John. Uncle Bob and Aunt Mabel were very close to Grandpa John and Grandma Ethel were very close and we visited them many times in Rootstown, Ohio. We played our first croquet games on their side lawn and I inherited some of Mary Beth’s stamp collection. Aunt Mabel and Grandma Ethel were probably even closer as they both lost their husbands early, Uncle Bob was 61 and Grandpa John was only 59. Wife #3. James Charles Yeend m. Edith Rose Widdecombe Oct. 6, 1928 (Edith died in 1958)
(She may have been Mary Elizabeth’s sister.) There is a will leaving everything to Edith, which apparently caused some problems in the family over the years. There is also a copy of her will leaving her estate to her sisters, and niece, Elizabeth Yeend Meyers (“Wiff”).  James’ children by his wife Clara are not mentioned. There are several letters from Ravenna attorneys dealing with the dispensing of “residual funds”, but Mildred says in a note, “Jack rec’d. nothing from this; his mother needed it. After her death, it went to Dick.”

Julia Getz [not sure who she is] Born Jan 9 (no year), d. Sept. 13, 1959  I remember hearing her referred to as Aunt Julia Getz. “Happily Wedded. Mr. William Getz, of the firm of Getz Bros., and Miss Julia Stewart, the very estimable daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Thomas C. Stewart, were united in marriage Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the residence of the bride’s parents, just west of Kent. Rev. Mr. Colegrove performed the ceremony in the presence of about thirty of the happy couples’ former schoolmates. A grand banquet was served immediately after the services and the young couple left on the 5:13 CD. & C. train for a trip up the Lakes and to Detroit. The Courier joins their many friends in extending best wishes.”
